Sex Toys for Beginners

Oh what are all these thingys? That was my first reaction to the multitude of sex toys on the market. (See my story about My First Sex Toy). There were things with various moving parts and strange shapes. When I started searching for the products about 10 years ago they were fairly simple – you either bought a dildo or a bullet.

It seems in the last five years there has been an explosion of sex toy products. Some for clit stimulation, some for g-spot and even some for both.  I had no idea what I was looking at and going to talk to my mother or a friend about a masturbating toy was not an option. After all I am from the generation that did not discuss these things.

So to help you begin the search for the right toy, here are my suggestions.

• Determine what excites you. There are three basic hot spots for sex toys – the clitoris, g-spot or anal. Some people get off by rubbing the clitoris (just above the vaginal opening) or maybe the g-spot is a better alternative (deep inside your uterus) and still others prefer anal stimulation. Once you determine your preference the overwhelming options become more manageable.
• Start with simple products that have limited options. Toys can come with various controls for speed, pulsations, and hard or soft vibrations. Purchase something that only has one or two of these controls.
• Determine a budget. Yes the toys can become expensive. Once you determine which types you like best, then you can start investing money. After all there is nothing worse than spending $100 on a toy that gives you no pleasure.
• Purchase from a reliable online seller or retail store in your area. This industry seems to have lots of shady characters and sometimes sites are con games. Visit my Links page for some online retailers I have learned to trust.
